The Dorothy Spotswood Charity Hospital is being established to provide free day surgery and specialist care for people in the Wellington region who cannot access public treatment and cannot afford private care.

As Establishment Chief Executive, Vito is helping turn that ambition into a functioning organisation. His work brings together the Board, clinicians, benefactors, suppliers, construction partners and community supporters, while developing the structure and relationships needed for opening and sustainable operations.

Section 1

The Challenge

Establish a sustainable hospital organisation from the ground up, bringing together premises, clinical fit-out, specialist equipment, clinical volunteer participation, funding streams, regulatory compliance and operational readiness.

Building a functioning charity hospital requires synchronizing complex dependencies: medical architectural design, seismic and building consents, high-grade hospital engineering services (ventilation, sterile processing, medical gases), specialist equipment procurement, donor engagement, volunteer credentialling, and strict health and disability standards certification.

Section 2

Vito’s Contribution

Establishment planning and coordination; working with the Board of Trustees on priorities and decisions; stakeholder and clinical partnership development; supporting fundraising and supplier relationships; coordinating surgical equipment and operational preparation; and maintaining disciplined momentum across interconnected workstreams.

  • Integrated Programme Management: Tracking construction, commissioning, certification, equipment procurement, and clinical readiness into a single cohesive roadmap to opening.
  • Governance & Board Support: Providing the Board of Trustees with clear strategic options, transparent risk assessments, and executive decision-making papers.
  • Stakeholder & Funder Alignment: Coordinating major philanthropic donors, grant-makers, health sector bodies, and regional leaders.
  • Operational & Clinical Readiness: Establishing volunteer pathways, operational management structures, and working closely with clinical leads to prepare for safe patient delivery.
